This 1 Day workshop includes:

  • An introduction to psychotropic medication, 
  • The evidence for the effectiveness of the SSRI antidepressants.
  • The effects of the drugs, and how they may affect a person’s thinking, behaviour and emotional functioning, 
  • Work in small groups giving an opportunity to experience some of the process dynamics in the relationship between the client, the medical practitioner and the therapist in order to facilitate professional liaison. 
  • exploration of some research findings on the use of metaphors in therapy relevant to the topic.

Diane Hammersley is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and on the BPS Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy.  She is in independent practice as a psychotherapist, supervisor, trainer and expert witness.  She has run workshops on prescribed drugs, dependence, and a wide variety of associated topics for counsellors and psychotherapists, NHS staff, in universities, health service, addiction services and voluntary agencies for a number of years.  She is the author of several articles and conference papers as well as the book, Counselling People on Prescribed Drugs (1995) published by Sage.  A chapter on the interface between psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches, is included in the Handbook of Counselling Psychology, (2015) 4th Ed, Sage.

 What is included in the cost?

A workshop manual which will include all the workshop handouts will be provided for each participant.
