STRESS AND BULLYING IN THE WORKPLACE

This workshop addresses the very real issues that emerge from conditions and relationships in the workplace.  Gareth will examine the causes and sources of stress at work, in particular the dynamics of power, control and pressure.  He will introduce the concept of corporapaths and corporate hostages – why thoroughly decent people come to adopt unnatural and inhuman behaviours at work and he will share strategies for navigating high stress workplaces.

This workshop is designed to provide therapists with an understanding and appreciation of how dynamics in the workplace can impact their clients.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences and discuss case studies which will give them a new perspective and the opportunity to provide clients struggling with relationships in the workplace with appropriate and effective support.

Learning Outcomes

  • A deeper understanding of the environmental conditions and the sources of stress that are unique to the workplace·

  • A more thorough appreciation of the power and control dynamics inherent to workplaces and how these can lead to anxiety and stress

  • An understanding of how workplace stress impacts clients physically and psychologically·

  •  A set of tools for holding and supporting clients suffering workplace stress

Workshop Leader

Gareth Chick is a 40-year corporate veteran and a business coach with a global profile. What makes Gareth's experience unique is that he has combined executive roles with a career as a leadership trainer, researching psychology, neuroscience and psychotherapy to create leadership development programmes used now by many major global corporations.  He founded Collaborative Equity LLP, - “promoting corporate cultures and sustainable business models of shared ownership, shared responsibility and shared rewards".   Gareth’s latest book “Corporate Emotional Intelligence – Being Human in a Corporate World” is out October 2018 and is a seminal work for business in the twenty-first century. It analyses how human behaviour is conditioned within corporate cultures, and how managers come to adopt unconscious controlling habits that are counter-productive and that create cultures of fear. Corporate Emotional Intelligence is the textbook for anyone interested in 21st Century human dynamics.
