Working with the Anxious Client -Sold Out

95.00

A workshop for qualified and training counsellors, psychotherapists and anyone else who works in the field of mental health who is interested in this subject.  This day explores ways of working with anxiety with clients who present with long term generalised ‘free floating’ anxiety and panic attacks.

I will explore practical interventions and theoretical underpinning of working with anxious clients that go beyond simply teaching techniques to ‘manage’ anxiety symptoms.  We will look at body awareness teaching and how this is used to work on self-awareness with the client.  We will explore Gestalt theories of self - actualisation and how clients ‘trap’ themselves into ways of living that perpetuates anxious responses.    We will also explore how developmental experiences,  the client’s story, is physically held and can be experienced as unsettledness by the client, giving meaning to the symptoms.  Amongst all of this will also be other themes such as shame, guilt and rage.

In my work with anxious clients over the years I have developed my own integrative approach to this work which has had success in ‘settling’ chronic anxiety responses in clients.   The client group that I see usually have tried other forms of symptom treatment without success.   I have a particular interest in working with anxiety and panic attack presentation with clients and I hope that participants will find the day a useful exploration of what can sometimes be a very intractable problem.  I invite participants to bring their own case material to explore on the day and we will explore how the ideas and thoughts from the day can be integrated into your own work with clients.
