Barbara Sharp Dip Grad Cert MBACP

About Me
I am a member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and have been counselling and supervising for a national bereavement charity since 1998, I have also had seven years experience worked at a GP surgery. I have qualifications and work in the following areas: Person Centred Counselling Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Bereavement Counselling Life Coaching.
Counselling is a ‘one to one’ interaction in a private and confidential setting, where a client can explore thoughts and feelings. Counselling is accepting and non-judgemental, enabling a client to discover and clarify life choices. There are times when a problem – no matter how big or small – cannot be resolved by ourselves or spoken about to friends or family. Grief, anxiety, anger, stress or crisis are just a few situations where a counsellor can provide a listening ear to help you develop a clearer understanding of your difficulties as you see them. I have in-depth experience and training qualifications in the following areas:

  • Person Centred Counselling – this approach leads a client to greater self-awareness and acceptance, empowering the client to make their own choices and take control of their lives.

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – is a psychotherapeutic approach that can show clients a way of coping with most stress related issues. CBT has been shown to have an enduring effect beyond the end of treatment, reducing the risk of relapse.

  • Bereavement Counselling - enables a client to achieve an understanding of their grief and to begin to cope with their loss.

  • Life Coaching – is for clients who are looking to change some aspect of their life but are unsure of how to realise their potential. Life Coaching gives the client personal support and a commitment to professional and personal growth, enhancing your quality of life and showing you how to achieve your goals.

I can provide help in the following areas:

  • Bereavement,

  • Depression,

  • Panic Attacks,

Counselling may be brief or long term, depending on your needs; for some clients one session is enough, others may need longer. Each session lasts 50 minutes and meetings are usually conducted weekly. Supervision I am a qualified supervisor and offer supervision to other counsellors and psychotherapists. Supervision is essential to ensure high standards of professional practice, and is especially important for trainees, who may require extra support. Supervision it is there to support both client and counsellor, therefore a good working relationship with a supervisor is important.
My fees are usually £40.00 per session. Payment can be made by cash or cheque. You need to give me 24 hrs notice of cancellation, or the session may be charged. If you would like a general discussion, further information or to book a session please contact me in the following way:
