Philippa Smethurst Counsellor/Psychotherapist/Supervisor
I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor with over twenty years experience. I currently practice in South East London as well as Banbury.
My original training was at the Metanoia Institute in London where I achieved a Master's Degree, and my training draws on humanistic and psychodynamic principles. I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with BACP and registered with UKCP.
I work with individuals and couples on both a short and long term basis. I am highly skilled to listen and accept who you are, and also to work with you to shed light on the root of your difficulties and to work through painful life events and situations.
The kinds of triggering events that I work with may be a bereavement, a broken relationship, problems at work or an addiction. Sometimes it is less clear to know why a person is unhappy or distressed, but the opportunity to talk confidentially to a qualified practitioner can be immensely relieving. A process of counselling or psychotherapy can take just a few sessions to come to a new understanding or can be a longer term process. I have a special interest in trauma and integrate Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in my practice, which is a newer treatment, which directly addresses the effects of trauma on the body without the need to use touch. Clients report an appreciation of its gentle and empowering interventions and practical approach to internal distress.
If you would like to make contact, I would suggest that you give me a ring on 07863 183076.
